FROM THE PRESIDENT……Gus Swanson

As the New England camping season draws to close and our members prepare for their trip to warmer climates or prepare their coaches for winter storage, while they brave yet another winter season, we need to say a special thank you to all members that helped make our 2008 camping season a huge success.

The “Fall Fest” Rally at the RiverBrook RV Resort in Rumney, NH was a perfect way to end our northern rally schedule. We had 24 member and one guest coach join hosts Bill & Carol Elkins and Fred & Nancy Rhine for a great weekend. The sunny weather made it beautiful for those that wanted to do some leave peeping or wanted to take a brisk ride up to the notch. The Happy Hour each day, as you might expect, were a success, you can tell by my waistline! Our hosts served up a great evening meal for our Saturday night pleasure. Auctioneers Glenn McCracken and Fred Rhine made the “Brown Bag Auction” a big success. The quality of items, from fine dinnerware, wine, candles and of course Jerry’s famous $2.00 goody bag added to the entertainment and enjoyment of the night. Our host campground, RiverBrook, as in the past treated us very well.

Our 2009 Rally schedule is coming together. Wagon Master, Linda Porazzo still has an opening for April. If anyone is interested in hosting or co-hosting a Chapter Rally, contact Linda at porazzo@comcast.net or 617.851.3798 or myself. If you know of a place that can accommodate our group for a Chapter Rally, with or without hook-ups (dry camping), let Linda or myself know. It is never too early to start thinking about our 2010 camping season.

We have been asked to help with Security and Day Gate for the NEAR Rally at Essex Junction, VT, August, 12-15, 2009. If you have not signed up and are interested in participating as a Volunteer, contact Bill Elkins at or 603.435.6064. We have a good time and it is a great way to meet other FMCA members.

With this issue is a current membership list. Glenn and Bobbie McCracken do a great job of maintaining our membership information but it is only as good as the information that is provided too them. If you wonder when your Granite Staters membership expires, check the mailing label for your membership expiration date.

This may be our last Newsletter until after the 1st of the New Year, but Bob Burnham will be updating our website, www.granitestaters.org, on an as needed basis, to keep us all informed.

See you January 11th, 2009 for a “Winter Dinner” at the Cat ‘n’ Fiddle Restaurant in Concord, NH hosted by Bob & Louise Parsons. See the schedule for details.

In that this is our last Newsletter of 2008 we would like to wish everyone a safe, healthy and joyous holiday season.

CHAPTER NEWS

Wagon Master Report

I wish to thank all the host, co-hosts and everyone who chipped in at camp outs to make the 2008 Granite Staters camp outs a great success. It has been a trying year with gas & diesel prices out of this world and a very bad economy but we prevailed!

2009 Schedule is almost complete and is always subject to change. We have new hosts and co-host who have stepped forward for this year. A big “Howdy” and “thank you”. I must personally say that there are a few club members who complain all the time about where we are going and what we are doing. I say “hey you” step up to the plate and plan a weekend on your own and I bet you won’t complain again……..

Our first event of the year is the winter dinner at the Cat ‘n’ Fiddle in Concord, N. H. on January 11th. At 12:30 P.M. planned by Bob & Louise Parsons 603-648-6104. The restaurant has served us well in the past, so do plan to attend if you are still up North. The rest of you folks down south can see each other at ” Brooksville” unless someone steps forward to plan a pre-rally.

We are looking for a co-host for Bill & Nancy McDonough’s campout at Lake Forest. If you would like to volunteer please call Bill or Nancy 603-476-5056 to find out what it is all about or just call me 617-851-3798.

If the weather is good and anyone wants to camp in April maybe we can get together at either Scusset Beach or Salisbury Beach. We will wait till spring to see if we need to dig out.

All the officers know the economy is bad and have worked hard with the hosts and co-hosts to try to keep the costs affordable for camp outs. The increases in everything have also hit the camp ground owners too so please keep that in mind.

“Happy Trails”,
Linda Porazzo, Wagon Master

617-851-3798   Porazzo@comcast.net

From the Wagonmaster

To Rally Hosts    Granite Staters schedule with the exception of Grandparents Weekend Fryeburg, Maine will be announced in the Family Motor Coach Magazine unless you request your camp out not be in there.    Let the wagon master know.

Last Sunday, October 26, my computer suffered a hard disk crash just as I was preparing to leave for Florida. Much of the work of putting this newsletter together was completed, except that I have not been able to download my email since then. As is evident in this page, some reports have not been received. When I am finally up and running, the newsletter will be completed and available at our Web site. I apologize for any inconvenience

Please note that our host for this Web site has discontinued our email service. My email address has been changed in the home page and will soon be changed in other pages where the ganitestaters.org address may appear.

FROM THE PRESIDENT……Bill Elkins

Carol and I just returned home from the Granite Staters Rally at the Fryeburg Maine Fairgrounds. Everyone who attended had a good time. It’s nice to see that the Granite Staters are keeping the “family” in Family Motor Coach. There were several children and grandchildren who visited. Parents of one member spent the weekend with us also. As always the “Hosts” did a good job and we appreciate their efforts.

We should be getting places reserved for next year, it would be nice to have them all booked by our September meeting. Please let myself or the Wagon Master know of any places are able to accommodate us for a Rally. We have not had a combined Chapter rally in several years the last one was at Salisbury Beach a few years ago. Either with or without full Hook-ups even Dry Camping, should be considered.

The Granite Staters have 25 Volunteer Coaches for Security and Day Gate duty going to the NEAR Rally at Essex Jct. VT. Thanks in advance to the Volunteers.

Thanks to Bob Burnham for taking over as Newsletter Editor. Anyone having items for the newsletter should send them to bob@granitestaters.org or by mail at PO Box 203, Hinsdale NH 03451.

Keep Smiling,

Bill

July Rally at Fryeburg Fairgrounds

The Fryburg rally was a great success and we had a nice time.Ended up making a profit of 131.31 and we had a very generous donationn from Thelma Buck for $20.00.She has some beautiful doilies that she crochets and said she would donate half of what she could sell to the chapter. All she wants is the money to buy materials to do more to keep herself occupied. Some of these doillies should sell for over $100.00.Hope she brings them to future rallies.

From the Webmaster

As President Bill notes in his comments above, I have agreed to continue publishing the Newsletter on line. The only difference is is that there will no longer be a "Newsletter Editor" per se, although I will prepare a copy for our snail mail list. Bill has agreed to continue with the function of printing and mailing those few copies, and I thank him for doing that. We will continue with our schedule of printed Newsletters in March, May, July, and November. however, the Web pages will be updated whenever new information is received, such as the rally schedule, rally details, for sale and wanted items for the Mart page, and, of course any "late breaking" news. Please send all copy to me as you have done in the past for former Editors.

If you want notice when the next Newsletter comes on line, please send me an email at burnham@sover.net.

What's on your mind? I invite any member to submit thoughts, suggestions, or other comments to me to include in this newsletter. Names will be withheld, if requested, but anonymously submitted materials will not be displayed.

The snow is gone, now its black fly season with mosquitoes not far behind. The rush will soon be on for the June inspections. We were looking forward to seeing you at Sandwich but Carol and I, along with Fred & Nancy Rhine will be at the pre-rally meeting at Essex Junction, VT. on the same week-end as the Sandwich Rally. We will have an update on the NEAR 2008 Day Gate and Security for the June Rally.

This year’s Rallies are all scheduled, check our website for details, some are still being worked out and will be posted as soon as available.

Dick and Peg White are well on their way to Alaska. On May 6 they were in Las Cruces NM. They have some side trips along the way. We are still in need of Newsletter Editors and we also need a few more Security-Day Gate volunteers for the NEAR Rally in Essex Junction.

FROM THE PRESIDENT……Bill Elkins

Looking out the dining room window at snow banks over 7 ft high, it’s nice to think that it will be gone soon, only not soon enough for my liking. But it has been a great winter for the winter sports businesses in New Hampshire.

We had a good turnout for the January Dinner and the weather that day was great. It was nice that John Sandstrom and Blanche Roberts were able to attend. Fred was suppose to be with Blanche but was a little under the weather that day and could not be there. Fred and Nancy Rhine could only stay for a couple of minutes as Nancy had taken a fall at a stop just before arriving. They needed to go to the hospital to have Nancy checked. She was still recuperating from back surgery and did not want to take any chances.

This year’s Rallies are all scheduled, check our website. The details for some are still being worked out and will be posted as soon as available.

Looking forward to the Sandwich Rally in May. Our first trip out this year is scheduled for April 1. It’s a long one, 9 miles to Camping World to get the Coach inspected. That is if the snow banks have melted enough to get it out.

Dick and Peg White will be heading for a trip to Alaska shortly and we need someone to take the Newsletter Editors position. We also need a few more Security-Day Gate volunteers for the NEAR Rally in Essex Junction.

Keep Smiling,

Bill
